Meet Me at the Table
I didn’t come to Mahjongg through a trend. I came to it through my mom.
My early Mahjongg memories are of us playing with her friends, gathered around a table, tiles clicking, laughter mixed with quiet focus. In those early days, I played alongside them in Hilton Head, slowly learning not just how to play, but how the game felt. It wasn’t just Mahjongg. It was time set aside, relationships strengthened, something consistent and meaningful.
That’s where it started for me.
I’ve now been playing Mahjongg for over 20 years, and that foundation has shaped everything about how I teach. I believe in a clear, step-by-step approach, building strategy in a way that feels natural and not overwhelming. Mahjongg has structure, rules, and tradition for a reason, and when it’s taught in a way that connects, it clicks.
Over the years, my work as a speech-language pathologist and my role as a mom have also shaped the way I teach. Both have grounded me in meeting people where they are, breaking things down in a way that makes sense, and creating a space where people feel comfortable learning something new.
As Mahjongg has grown in popularity, I’ve felt a strong pull to make it approachable and welcoming to the entire community. Through my classes with Auburn Parks and Recreation and beyond, I want new players to feel like they have a seat at the table while still honoring the traditions that make the game what it is.
Along the way, I’ve also come to appreciate the connection found in the pieces we bring into the creative spaces in our lives. Creativity has always been part of my world, growing up around artists in my own family and exploring it myself through watercolor, painting, and needlework. From cross-stitch to embroidery to needlepoint, it started early for me in a small shop in Hilton Head when I was eight, and it’s stayed with me ever since.
As a woman-owned business, I love the opportunity to highlight other creators and business owners who are sparking that same creativity in all of us. I’m drawn to meaningful products and thoughtful makers, people who care deeply about what they’re creating and why. Because behind every product is a story, and when I choose what to share, I’m not just selecting items. I’m helping connect those stories to this community.
Because for me, Mahjongg has never just been about the tiles.
Over the years, that feeling has never changed. It’s about connection, family, friendship, and tradition. It’s about sitting down with people, sharing time, learning from one another, and creating something that feels both familiar and lasting.
That’s what I carry into the way I teach and share Mahjongg now. Not just how to play, but why it matters.
Meet me at the table.
